Maternity Photoshoots in Durham and the North East

If you are looking for a maternity photographer in Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland or Chester-le-Street, our studio specialises in elegant maternity portraits designed to celebrate this special stage of pregnancy.

Welcoming a new life into the world is a magical experience, and capturing those precious moments before your little one arrives is something you will treasure forever. At Infinity Photographic Studios in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, we specialise in creating beautiful, timeless maternity portraits that celebrate this incredible journey. One of the most common questions we receive is: “When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot?” Here’s everything you need to know.

When Should You Schedule Your Maternity Session?

The ideal time to have your maternity photoshoot is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your bump is beautifully round and prominent, but you are still likely to feel comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. Every pregnancy is unique, so it’s important to book a time that feels right for you.

If you’re expecting twins or multiples, we recommend scheduling slightly earlier, around 26 to 30 weeks, as bumps tend to develop sooner.

Why Timing Matters

Booking your maternity session at the right time ensures you get the best possible portraits. In the later stages of pregnancy, you may start to feel more tired and uncomfortable, which could make posing and moving around during the session more challenging. By planning ahead, we can capture you looking and feeling your best.

When Should You Book Your Appointment?

We advise booking your maternity photoshoot as early as your 20-week scan. This allows plenty of time to secure a date that works for you, especially during busy periods.

At Infinity Photographic Studios, we offer flexible scheduling and will always do our best to accommodate late bookings. However, securing your session early guarantees you a spot on our calendar and allows us time to plan a truly personalised experience for you.

Do you also offer newborn baby photoshoots?

Yes, many of our maternity clients return to the studio once their baby has arrived for a newborn baby photoshoot.

Newborn photography is very different from maternity portraits and is usually photographed when your baby is between 7 and 14 days old. During this time babies are naturally sleepy and comfortable being gently posed, allowing us to create those beautiful curled up newborn portraits that families love.

Because of this small window, we normally recommend pre-booking your newborn photography session during pregnancy. When you visit us for your maternity session, we can make a provisional booking around your due date so that everything is ready once your little one arrives.
