Award-Winning Maternity Photography – Xperience Awards 2022

Back in 2022, I was incredibly honoured to receive an award for one of my maternity photographs at the Xperience Awards 2022. It’s something I’m very proud of, and if I’m being completely honest, something I probably should have shouted about a little sooner.

If there’s one thing I’ve been guilty of over the past 15 years as a photographer, it’s keeping quiet about achievements like this. In fact, it’s taken me far longer than it should have to sit down and write about it at all.

Competing at a National Level

As part of the Xperience Group, I have the opportunity to compete against up to 100 professional photography studios from across the UK in a range of categories. In 2022, one of my maternity images was shortlisted in the Creative category, and during the awards evening I was delighted to learn it had been placed in the top 10 images nationally.

That alone felt like a huge achievement.

A Public-Voted Win

What I didn’t expect was what came next.

I was genuinely shocked and absolutely thrilled to discover that the image went on to win the Consumer Award, which was chosen by members of the public. Knowing that the photograph connected with people outside of the photography industry meant a great deal to me. I loved the image from the moment I pressed the shutter, and it’s always special when others feel the same.

Award-Winning Maternity Photography in Durham

Maternity photography has always been something I care deeply about. It’s about more than just photographs, it’s about celebrating an incredible stage of life in a calm, relaxed studio environment and creating images that feel timeless and meaningful.

There is now a dedicated maternity category at the Xperience Awards, which means future maternity sessions may well involve me asking for a model consent form. You never know when something special might be created.

(And yes, if I’m shortlisted again, I promise I’ll get a haircut before the awards night!)
